Vacuum system optimization
50% energy savings are possible - with liquid ring vacuum pumps
As a vacuum system supplier to the paper industry, VAKUO assist the papermakers in optimizing existing vacuum systems.
Since the 1990s, we have often reduced the specific consumption and saved 50% of energy by replacing old liquid ring pumps through new liquid ring pumps.
This energy saving is more relevant today than ever before. Optimum design, good condition of the equipment, and a smart control of the operating point of a vacuum system are crucial for the efficiency of the paper machine - for both, for its reliability and for the energy efficiency.
Easy unexpensive modifications lead to good practices, sustainable energy savings and increased reliability.
At the end the rotating speed of the vacuum pumps can often be reduced by 30% (x0.7) and thus the power consumption by 50% (as 0.7x0.7 = 0.49).

The suction flow [m³/min] is proportional to the rotating speed [RPM],
while the absorbed power increases (or decreases) exponentially.

Asking the pertinent questions (like for example "how much vacuum do we really need?"), debottlenecking the system, we are eventually able to reduce the pump speed (using a frequency converter for speed control or replacing a small motor pulley) obtaining a huge energy saving.
